Dispatch Issue #2

Feature Story Brainstorm

1. Who is your main subject?  My step-grandmother, LiJen Suter 2.  Supporting interviews (who else do you need to talk to, minimum 2 other people)?   My mom, LiJen's daughter 3. Feature Writing Process

1. A feature lede doesn't have the who, what, when, where, why, and how all in the first paragraph like a news lede does. 2. Who- 1 What-2 When-1 Where-1 Why-2 How-2 3. yes 4. no 5. The Man Who Played the Violin

1. We perceive beauty, but only in places we are expecting to find it. When you are in a museum, you stop and admire the art, but when you are just walking to work in the morning, you can ignore things that are beautiful. 2. We don't stop to appreciate beauty sometimes because we think too much about other things like money and stress about getting to work on time. When you are too focused on things like that you become oblivious to the beauty around you. 3. We don't recognize the talent in an unexpected context because when we're not expecting to find talent or beauty, we're not going out of our way to try to look for it. 4. If you don't have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians, which is the case for a lot of people, we probably miss out on other beautiful things. Even with loud noise that is hard to ignore, the talent of Bell still went unnoticed.
