American astronaut Neil Armstrong becomes the first human to walk on the moon - 1969

On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 blasted off with Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins. It took four days before they finally landed on the moon. Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon on July 20, and did experiments took samples, and put a flag on the moon.

I think this is one of the most important news stories in the 1900's because it was the first time anyone ever walked on the moon. Many people were shocked when this happened because not long before that, it seemed impossible. This day in changed history and gave us new information about space.

Horrors of Nazi Holocaust, concentration camps exposed - 1945
Throughout World War 2, two thirds of European Jews were killed in concentration camps by German Nazis. Ordinary people were tortured and killed. About 6 million people were murdered and the Holocaust is considered one of the largest genocides.

This event is important because it resulted in a large percentage of the Jewish population taken out. Everyone knows about the Holocaust because of it's importance.
