Long Response:
Recently, many school districts have been converting to a four day long school week. To make up for the lost day, schools are adding an hour to each of the four remaining days. Certain school districts in Colorado have switched to four day weeks in order to save money, boost attendance, and attract more teachers.
Advantages to a four day week are that it saves money and helps recruit teachers in rural area school districts, however the shorter week may cause problems for lower income families. The extra day will cause parents to pay for extra child care and not have access to free or reduced meals for five days. Studies have shown that the money saved is not a lot, and it is not proven to help recruit teachers.
I would be in favor of going to school only four days, because an extra day off would be useful to catch up on schoolwork and spend more time with family and friends, which can be hard during the school week. With a four day school week, I would be more productive on the weekends because there would be more time, and the actual school days would be less stressful because there is an extra day to complete any homework or projects due the next week. I think my parents would be fine with this because I am at the age where I can be alone without any supervision. They would also like that I have more free time on the weekends. Longer school days would take time to adjust to, but because there is more time in school, there would probably be less homework, students could have a better sleep schedule in order to be prepared for the school day.
